Benevelli piero
standout wines from monforte.
Established in 1978 by Piero Benevelli, the Azienda Agricola Benevelli Piero began with five hectares of vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, focusing on traditional Piedmontese grape varieties such as Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. His son, Massimo, commenced his viticultural training at the age of 14, embracing the philosophy that exceptional wines originate from superior grapes.
Today, Massimo and his wife, Denise, manage the family estate, which has expanded to 11 hectares. Their deep connection to the land is evident in their wines, which harmoniously blend traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. Committed to sustainability, they practice organic farming principles, hand-harvesting grapes, utilizing indigenous yeasts, and avoiding clarification or filtration processes.
The Benevelli vineyards are predominantly situated in the southeastern-facing hillside cru of “Ravera” in Monforte d’Alba. This location imparts a unique character to their wines, combining the structural strength of neighboring Serralunga d’Alba with the concentration and richness of Bussia. Their portfolio includes three distinct Barolo crus—Le Coste di Monforte, Mosconi, and Ravera di Monforte—each reflecting the nuances of its specific terroir. Additionally, they produce Dolcetto d’Alba “La Costa,” Barbera d’Alba “Bricco del Pilone,” and Langhe Nebbiolo, all showcasing the authenticity and elegance characteristic of the region.
Renowned wine critic Antonio Galloni has recognized Massimo Benevelli as one of the emerging talents in Piedmont, noting that his wines exhibit character, soul, and originality.
Through dedication to their craft and respect for their heritage, the Benevelli family continues to produce wines that authentically express the essence of their land and the traditions of Piedmont.
